Masaba Gupta is one of the biggest names in the Indian fashion industry, who has made her name for herself with aesthetic yet trendy and colourful designs. But while she has been famous for her designer wear clothes, she has also been under the spotlight for another reason too! She was born out of a wedlock between Indian actress Neena Gupta and West Indian cricketer Viv Richards. And while she has been constantly trolled about this, Masaba has always stayed strong. Recently, when she tweeted in support of the firecracker ban that was imposed by the Supreme Court, all hell broke loose. Not only was she trolled, but she was also called names like ‘bastard child’ and ‘Illegitimate West Indian.’ While most of these tweets have been reported and deleted by Twitter, the beautiful designer chose to hit back! And her reply will actually put the worst trollers to shame…

In a note posted by her on Twitter, Masaba mentioned, “Recently I retweeted in support of the Firecracker ban by the Supreme Court and like every other issue in the country, big or small; the trolling and bashing began. By calling me names like ‘bastard child’ or ‘illegitimate West Indian,’ it only makes my chest swell with pride. I’m the illegitimate product of two of the MOST legitimate personalities you’ll fins and I’ve made the best life, both personally and professionally out of it, which I am proud of. I’ve been called these names since I was 10 years old and ever since I could read the newspaper, these are two words that I am immune to. My legitimacy comes from the work I do and what my contrinution to society has been. And you can try but you will not be able to raise a single finger on either of the two. So please, if you must, go ahead and continue calling me these names if it makes you feel glorious. But know this, I am a proud Indo-Carribean girl who doesn’t know how to shrink and crumble in shame of something you or your society cannot handle. It’s just in my ‘illegitimate’ genes.” (ALSO READ – This video featuring Masaba Gupta will inspire you to design your own path in life!)
