The postponement of Rajinikanth – Akshay Kumar‘s 2.0 from January 25th, 2018, has been confirmed, according to reliable trade sources. The distributors and theatre owners have been already informed about the decision, and the makers are currently mulling over new release date options for the film, including the possibility of Tamil New Year festival in April. Initially, the teaser of the film was slated to be launched in Hyderabad in a grand event on November 23rd at Shilpakala Vedika auditorium, and the trailer launch was supposed to be held on December 12th in Chennai to coincide with the occasion of Rajinikanth’s birthday. Now, both the events have been postponed to a later date since the release is delayed. Also Read: As if Akshay Kumar’s deadly look for Rajinikanth’s 2.0 wasn’t enough, now he also gets a voice change
Sources say the post-production work, which involves a lot of visual effects, is taking time and hence the team decided to postpone the film to give more time to the CG department, which is headed by national award-winning VFX supervisor Srinivas Mohan, best known for his work in Baahubali: The Beginning and Endhiran.
Directed by Shankar and produced by Lyca Productions, 2.0 has Amy Jackson playing a prominent role in the film. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is playing the baddie. The movie also marks the Kollywood debut of Akshay, who had already confirmed the release of his social drama Padman directed by R.Balki on January 26th, 2018 for the Republic Day weekend.
AR Rahman is currently busy with the re-recording of the film and is also awaiting for Shankar to deliver the CG shots. Eleven countries are working in unison with Srinivas Mohan on the visual effects of the film. Hollywood stuntman Kenny Bates of Transformers fame has worked on the film’s stunts, and Peter Hein has supervised the same.
