Pad Man released today. It’s not just a film, it’s a movement. It’s Bollywood’s attempt to tell a story that needs to be heard by everyone. Menstruation has hardly been dealt with in films. It’s one of those topics which is still spoken in hush hush tones. Akshay Kumar took it on him to make it a conversation starter rather than something that will make people whisper to each other. That’s why the actor has become the real ‘Superhero’ for the audience. We spoke to the people watching the film today and their response will make the actor feel really good.
Akshay had often said that he wants people to watch this movie because it broaches a topic that is surrounded by millions of taboos. He wants to break myths surrounding periods and it seems he has managed to do so. A girl was really overwhelmed by the fact that a man did something women didn’t. She was of the view that women go through it every month, but it took a man to realise their woes and bring out a solution. Obviously, through Akshay, she is thanking Arunachalam Muruganantham, who started a revolution by making cheap but hygienic sanitary napkins for the poor women. Isn’t this what Akshay wanted this film to do? No wonder the occupancy today has been pretty good. 35-40 per cent occupancy is good for a film which opened in only 2700 screens in India. Check out what else the audience has to say about the film in the video above. Produced by Twinkle Khanna, KriArj Entertainment and directed by R. Balki, Pad Man also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor apart from Akshay Kumar.
