Should Aiyaary be worried about clashing with Black Panther tomorrow? We think so…

Aiyaary tried its best to avoid a clash and just when it thought February 16 would be the perfect date for release, Black Panther came into the picture. The latter is expected to open to grand numbers in the West and if the sparkling reviews are any indication, it won’t be wrong to say that it might work wonders on the Indian shores as well. Should that bother Sidharth Malhotra and Manoj Bajpayee’s Aiyaary? History suggests that they should be slightly nervous about this clash because since the past few years, Hollywood releases have been consistently trumping over Hindi films.

There are reasons why Black Panther might just overshadow Neeraj Pandey’s thriller. The film has a record 100 per cent ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, making it the most anticipated film of the year. Marvel has been on a winning streak in India since last year, what with both Spiderman Homecoming and Thor Ragnarok earning big at the box office despite local releases. They will look to continue the run. Even though it is the first Black Panther movie, the fact that it is linked to Avengers Infinity War, which releases this April, has made the film a hot topic of discussion in India as well. It is also getting good reviews, which definitely is a bonus. Also, as we told you, in last couple of years, Hollywood has been faring better than Bollywood. Jungle Book released a week before Shah Rukh Khan’s Fan to avoid a clash but worked better at the box office. The film’s unprecedented success at the ticket windows was a wake up call for everyone in B-town. Deadpool ruined Fitoor’s chances at the box office whereas Batman Vs Superman didn’t give Rocky Handsome any scope to win big. Last year too, Thor triumphed over Ittefaq at the box office. It became the highest grossing Thor installment in India and also the biggest Marvel hit in the country. Furious 8 crushed Begum Jaan too. So the track record is pretty abysmal here.

But Aiyaary can emerge as an exception to the norm, we believe. The film has been creating a good buzz lately and the trailer was widely liked by all. Plus, it’s a Neeraj Pandey film, which means there will be a lot of twists and turns to keep everyone hooked. So we are hopeful that despite Black Panther’s prowl, Aiyaary, too, will manage to shine at the box office.
